The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is one of the few places in the world where one can find a copper deposit in its native, un-oxidized form. This piece of copper was mined in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. Click here for geologic information about the Michigan Copper Mining District. Note the pieces of basalt matrix still attached in places to the copper.
