The back of the slab has been re-enforced with fiber glass. The edge displays the natural bark of the tree.
Petrified wood is the name given to wood that has been slowly turned into stone (fossilized) through the process of permineralization in which all of the organic matter becomes replaced by silica minerals, while much of the original structure such as the wood grain and tree rings is retained.
