Lapis lazuli is an aggregate of several minerals. The three major minerals are lazurite, calcite, and pyrite. The rock can also contain lesser amounts of diopside, amphibole, feldspar, or mica. Lazurite is the mineral that produces the gem’s most prized color—bright royal blue. This beautiful box was crafted in Afghanistan from natural royal blue Lapis, and has striking veins of pyrite running through it.
