Carborundum (Silicon Carbide) is a manufactured crystal grown for use in the cutting tools and abrasives industry due to its extreme hardness, 9-9.5 mohs. This specimen with exceptional hexagonal crystals was grown in Spain using select deposits of silica sand. It is fascinating to see what crystals can be produced by humans. Moissanite, silicon carbide’s natural occurrence in nature, is very rare.
