This piece of conceptual art depicts the event which was a catalyst for a massive global change in Earth’s biome. The catalyst for this change was the impact of an enormous meteorite estimated to be 6 miles in diameter that struck the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico some 65 million years ago.
This impact accelerated the extinction of many species of living things. The most famous of these was the extinction of the dinosaurs that had dominated the world for millions of years.
Absent the dinosaurs, the existing small group of mammal species were enabled to thrive and develop and emerge as Earth’s new dominant species.
Materials: Nickel, Iron, Cobalt Meteorite from Campo del Cielo, Argentina
Limestone from the Georgetown Formation, Texas, deposited 100 million years ago
Fiber Optic Lamp
Size: 11” by 16” by 6” tall, Total Weight: 28 lbs
