EGGSThese eggs are carved from the picturesque Kanab Goldenstone from Kanab, Utah. The scenic pattern is a result of ancient mineral water percolating thru 75 million year old sandstone, leaving brown iron bands behind. It is all natural.

MRHYE3This rhyolite is quarried in Utah. It is a volcanic rock with the same chemical composition as granite, but without the large crystals of feldspar and quartz. It is a welded tuff, formed by grains of volcanic ash that were hot enough to weld themselves together as they accumulated and flowed.

MCSPH03 (in sunlight)Calcite, calcium carbonate CaCO3, is the building block for limestone and marble. It can be clear to opaque and colorless to golden, yellow, red, green, white or blue. These calcite spheres from China were photographed on a wooden light box with a 7 watt bulb and in sunlight. The sphere MCSPH01 is colorless to slightly yellow and has good clarity and visible insipient cleavage planes within. It is 2" in diameter. MCSPH02 is golden and translucent with visible cleavage planes within. It is 3" diameter. MCSPH03 is golden and translucent to slightly transparent with visible cleavage planes within. It is 2.4" diameter.

From the sand grain on the beach to complex twinned crystals, it is one of the most studied and pondered minerals. MQSPH01 is from Madagascar, is 4.1" in diameter and is very clear and colorless. It exhibits several stress planes and some nice rainbows. It is photographed on a wooden light base and in sunlight..

Satin spar is a fibrous form of gypsum. It gives a soft, satiny glow on the light box and silky luster in sunlight. The fibrous crystal transmits the light similar to ulexite, aka television rock. This sphere, from Morocco, is 3.3" diameter and is slightly clear to translucent.
